Having a tattoo can be such a pride and joy for many people. However,
every tattoo enthusiast need to know that tattoo care tips that they
must apply after their selected designs have been imprinted on their
skin. If you are interested in sporting tattoos, it is also equally
important that you will be keen at educating yourself on how to safely
help your skin to heal and preserve the art form on your skin.
Apply Petroleum Jelly
Some tattoo artists advise their clients to apply thick ointment
like petroleum jelly on their newly tattooed skin, especially on the
first several days. Afterward, the skin must be kept moisturized by
applying lotion over it. This may also help protect and preserve the
color of the tattoo. Yet, if you are worried about the ingredients
contained in these commercial products, there are also natural
alternatives that you can use.
Follow Tattoo Care Routine
Just as you follow a set of steps for other things you do, tattoo
care must also be implemented with a definite care routine. Aftercare
may vary from a few days to several weeks to allow the skin to fully
heal. The first day after the tattoo has been inked on your skin, it is
recommended to apply ice on it to lessen inflammation and pain. You have
to carefully cleanse your tattooed skin. Use a mild anti-bacterial soap
that contains no perfume and then rinse with lukewarm water. Remember
also to avoid exposure to heat and sunlight. For the first several days,
make sure you avoid swimming, sunbathing or exposing your body to dirt
and sweat. The tattoo must also be kept clean and dry.
Apply Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has beneficial properties (anti-fungal, anti-viral and
anti-bacterial) so it is excellent to be applied on your freshly
tattooed skin. You may also combine tea tree oil with
omega-3/omega-6/omega-9 fatty acids. This oil mixture can help
moisturize and protect the skin; and also encourage it to heal faster
without risks of irritation or fading of colors.
Take Care Of The Crust
Tattooing basically involves puncturing the skin; injecting it with
needles to imprint the color and the design of your chosen tattoo
design. Thus, a tattooed skin is akin to a skin that has been wounded.
It is prone to crust development. The day after your tattoo is done, you
will likely see plasma, or clear liquid, seeping and developing over
your tattoo. Do not let this liquid become dry and harden. In case it
cannot be avoided and the crust has indeed formed, you can wash it off
using warm water.
Moisturize Your Skin
It is when the tattoo has already been healed that you must begin to
moisturize the skin. Choose a lotion that contains no dye and
fragrance. Do not use lotions that contain petroleum and lanolin.
Lanolin is made from sheep wool that can produce allergic reactions.
Petrolatum and beeswax can only clog the pores. Other ingredients to
watch out for are parabens, propylene glycol and mineral oil.Always
read the label of the products you will purchase. A better moisturizing
alternative is hemp seed oil that has omega fatty acids,
anti-inflammatory and also anti-aging properties that will not irritate
the skin.
